today is this, tomorrow is that

How long is your to-do list?

For most of us, it’s a never-ending run-on sentence of things that we think have to get done. I propose there might be  another way. It’s about focusing on what’s in front of you and what really matters.

Monday morning exercise:

  1. Get yourself a pad of post-its.
  2.  On a notebook, journal or bulletin board {or wherever you write down your to-dos}, place the post-its. At the top of each post-it, write down one day of the week. {5 if you’re counting Mon-Fri.}
  3.  On each post-it, write down a short-list of what you think needs to be done on that day.   Be careful not to cram any one day too full.
  4.  Watch how the week unfolds.

Here’s what I think you will find:

  •  you get done what you want and need to get done.
  •  you find that what you thought needed to get done, but didn’t,  simply goes away.
  •  you realize that you have some resistance to one particular to-do and keep moving it over to the next day.

When you know what’s going on, then you can figure out what to do. Double up your efforts, delegate or dump it.

{Mission accomplished.}
